Eating Disorder & Weight Concern Training for Health Professionals

According to the National Eating Disorders collaboration, at the end of 2012, it was estimated that eating disorders affected nearly 1 million Australians.
Many of those people are unable to find the help they need, as most health professionals do not have specific training that enables them to effectively recognise and treat eating disorders.
The demand for this specialised knowledge is high, and the professional eating disorder and obesity training courses we offer at ACFED will enable you to add valuable skills to your current practice or organisation.

Courses Available:


These courses are suitable for counsellors, psychologists, psychotherapists, addiction specialists, doctors, psychiatrists, dietitians and nutritionists (unless otherwise stated), nurses and social workers at all levels of experience and qualification.

Your opportunity to join our network and become an ACFED Approved Practitioner

Our comprehensive ACFED Approved Practitioner training comprises of three main components:

Your listing on our referral database will indicate your level of expertise.

On completion of one of the courses above, you can apply to be listed as an ACFED Approved practitioner. Your listing will indicate which course you have taken so potential clients can easily see your area of expertise . Your listing will allow clients to contact you directly to book an appointment.

Completion of two of the courses above will elevate you to Silver level.
The completed courses will be listed under you name so clients can easily identify your skills.

When an ACFED Approved Practitioner has completed all three courses, they can be listed as a Gold Level Practitioner.  The Gold level demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of all the skills required to effectively recognise and treat eating disorders and obesity.

ACFED Prevention Facilitators

We offer the following course to practitioners who aspire to become an ACFED Prevention Facilitator:

This course is a ‘Train the Facilitator’ type course and not part of our ACFED Approved Practitioner Program.
After completion of this course participants can choose to be listed on our website as an ACFED Prevention Facilitator.
The course is ideal for school and college counsellors, youth workers, social workers, private practitioners who work with adolescents and those in community education.
