Eating Disorder recovery

This 3-day course starts with a reminder of the essential knowledge and treatment models introduced in our other courses (Eating Disorder Essentials and Psychological Approaches for Clients with Weight Concerns).

We then add additional dimensions to your knowledge as we look at some of the nutritional aspects potentially hindering client recovery.  Understanding what these factors are and how they occur can help you treat clients more effectively. We will work together to overcome some of the common problems we might encounter.

This is also a chance to expand on the treatment interventions for adults with anorexia nervosa using some exercises and concepts from the Maudsley Model of Anorexia Nervosa Treatment for Adults (MANTRA) which are not covered in the Eating Disorder Essentials course.

We then concentrate purely on practice as we move through a series of case studies, role plays, group and pairs exercises.

The 'bring a case' section will allow you to present a dilemma from your current work load and benefit from peer supervision as we work through these case studies in groups.

This course consolidates your knowledge and gives you more practical skills in how to deal with barriers, the cognitive limitations of under-eating clients, mindset interventions and treatment planning.

This 3-Day course is designed for health professionals who have already completed the Eating Disorder Essentials and the Psychological Approaches for Clients with Weight Concerns (also known as Psychological Approaches to Obesity) courses.

However, we will also accept health professionals who are experienced eating disorder practitioners.

After the course

Health professionals who complete the 3-Day Practical Skills for Eating Disorders & Obesity course can become an ACFED approved practitioner. You can choose to be included on our database and receive referrals via our website. Your work in the field of eating disorders and obesity will be in demand, and may increase your profitability if you are in private practice and/or may increase your future employment prospects.

ACFED approved practitioners will be able to use our logo to promote their skills, and they will receive referrals, inclusion on our website and peer support.

This course can be taken in addition to our 5-Day Eating Disorders Essentials course and our 3-Day Psychological Approaches for Clients with Weight Concerns course to elevate you to Silver or Gold ACFED Approved Practitioner status.
